Major Duties

  • Manages, leads, and provides technical direction and transitions basic research across the broad discipline of physics for the Air Force (AF) European Office of Aerospace Research and Development (EOARD).
  • Primary technical coverage for the program portfolio includes information storage and transfer, entanglement, superposition, non-classical phenomena, quantum control and simulation, matter-light interactions, dissipation, and related duties.
  • Evaluates and selects basic science proposals for support.
  • Identifies and follows foreign scientific and technological capabilities and advancements by providing liaison with members of the scientific and engineering community in Europe, the mid-East, Africa and countries of the former Soviet Union.
  • Coordinates the research program within the Air Force, DoD, Army, Navy and other national and international organizations.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for Physics Series, 1310, Professional and Scientific Positions. BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: A. Degree: physics; or related degree that included at least 24 semester hours in physics.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in physics totaling at least 24 semester hours, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In both A or B above, the courses must have included a fundamental course in general physics and, in addition, courses in any two of the following: electricity and magnetism, heat, light, mechanics, modern physics, and sound. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-14 or DR-III, in other pay systems. Specialized experience consists of being responsible for formulating and directing a research program in quantum information science. Converses and coordinates issues with the international scientific community, and directs exploratory research. COMPETENCIES: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Leadership, Oral Communication, Problem Solving, Professional Development, Program Management, Technology Management, and Written Communication PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Pay Range

$114,969.00 - $142,180.00
