Job Summary
This is a Research Grade Biologist position that is located at the National Wildlife Research Center (NWRC) in Fort Collins, CO. As a Research Biologist you will serve as a Project Leader having responsibility for discovery research, evaluation and development of control methods (e.g. reproductive) for wildlife at the NWRC.
Major Duties
- The duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Discover, evaluate and develop novel technologies for fertility control of vertebrate species, with an emphasis on mammals and birds.
- Field test different applications of control technologies.
- Suggest means of enhancing control technologies such as; improving efficacy, efficiency and selectivity, or reducing undesirable characteristics.
- Coordinate research and development activities with appropriate NWRC scientific collaborators, regulatory units and managers.
- Serving as study director and a major advisor or committee member for graduate students conducting research to reduce wildlife-human conflicts.
- Maintaining active and cooperative relationships with other federal and state agricultural and wildlife agencies, WS Operations, industry, academic institutions, and private organizations.
- Hiring and maintaining appropriate staff.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement, including specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. BASIC REQUIREMENT:
Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR;
Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. FOR THE GS-13 LEVEL: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-12 level) that may have been obtained in the private or public (local, county, state, Federal) sectors which demonstrates: 1. Experience and demonstrated independence in planning and conducting studies in basic and applied research in laboratory and captive animal settings in one or more specialized areas of cellular and molecular biology, which may include intracellular signaling, receptor-ligand interactions, gene and protein expression, antibody function and/or genetic engineering/editing, and RNAi.
2. The primary application of experience will have been towards the development of tools for fertility control of vertebrate animals, and may also include applications in toxicology, vaccine design, and delivery.
3. Extensive experience communicating research findings through peer-reviewed, scientific publications and presentations to diverse stakeholders, and considered an expert in their field. Pay Range
$96,856.00 - $125,910.00
