Job Summary
The ideal candidate will have experience performing the following experimental procedures involving physiologic, cell biologic, immunologic and molecular biology techniques: small animal vascular catheterization, small animal intravenous and inhalational anesthesia and analgesic techniques, small animal pain score analysis, surgical procedures in small animals, isolation of tissues and processing of tissues from small animals, and preparation of samples for RNA or protein analysis.
Major Duties
- Analyze impact of new studies and collaborations in terms of costs and resources required to support operations.
- Collect information and prepare maintenance agreement data reports.
- Develop specifications for use in solicitation for services and other contract documents.
- Performing a wide variety of complex experimental procedures involving physiologic, cell biologic, immunologic and molecular biology techniques such as: animal pain score analysis, fluid protein analysis, and animal vascular catheterization.
- Responsible for the containment and safe administration of potentially toxic infectious disease preparations in animal models of sepsis.
- Troubleshooting problems with equipment or experimental techniques and independently develops methods to resolve those difficulties.
- Utilizing a wide variety of computer programs to collect and organize data for optimal retrieval and presentation of results in a clear and concise manner.
- Writing and editing research procedures for use by other laboratory personnel.
- Teaching complex laboratory techniques to medical fellows, visiting scientists, and other technical staff.
- Acting as a resource to aid in resolving issues involving potentially contagious or toxic biological substances, waste, or spills.
- Developing and tracking budgetary and contractual administrative obligations.
Qualifications
In order to qualify for a Research Biologist , GS-401 position, you must meet the following Education Requirements: 1. Have completed the requirements for a bachelor's (or graduate) degree in a biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to this position, from an accredited college or university; OR 2. Have a combination of experience and education which includes courses comparable to a major in a biological science, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry or related disciplines appropriate to this position, AND I have appropriate experience or additional education which demonstrates similarly appropriate skills or abilities needed to perform the duties of this position.
In addition, in order to qualify for a Research Biologist position at the GS-13 level, you must: Have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: independently planning, implementing, and coordinating multiple biomedical research studies; training junior biomedical researchers (graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, etc.) on laboratory procedures and research methodologies; and, publishing biomedical research findings in peer-reviewed scientific journals. Pay Range
$102,663.00 - $133,465.00
