Major Duties
As a Research Geolgist within the Pacific Coastal & Marine Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:
Interpret and collect high-resolution geophysical and geochemical time series data, from which new insights on the hydro-geologic framework of coral reef-lined coasts can be developed in multi-stressor impact analysis of reef health and coastal hazards.
Couple new geophysical and geochemical techniques to assess and quantify subsurface water flow, thermal properties, and geologic makeup and how these parameters contribute to permafrost degradation and high-latitude coast vulnerabilities.
Provide critical comprehensive mapping and modeling of interactions between the coastal landscape and surface and groundwater in order to understand the interface between groundwater and the coastal or intertidal landscape and determine the location and migration path of fresh and saline flow.
Collaborate with other scientists and experts in the field of hydrogeology and sedimentology in coastal and offshore environments, and with inter-disciplinary teams.
Disseminate scientific findings and advancements.
Lead or co-lead laboratory work and determination of analytical results from a gamma spectrometer including the development of radioisotope geochronologies and computed tomography. Guide USGS and other scientific personnel on proper lab and field techniques required to attain hydrogeologic research objectives and analytical needs.
