Job Summary

This position is located with the U.S. Army Research and Development Center (ERDC),Geotechincal & Structures Laboratory. May be filled with any of the series being announced (0801, 808, 0810, 0819, 0830, 0850, 1301, 1310, 1350, 1520, or 1550) This position may be filled at either the Developmental DB-02 or the Full Performance Level DB-04.

Major Duties

  • Execute major research projects in areas such as soil and rock mechanics, geology, blast and weapons effects against structures and geo-materials, and vehicle mobility and maneuver.
  • Develop proposals and test plans to solve complex engineering problems.
  • Analyze statistical or numerical data and prepares interim and final reports.
  • Apply numerical modeling to basic research applications, such as computational fluid dynamics (CFD), computational structural mechanics (CSM), computational electromagnetics and acoustics (CEA), computational chemistry and materials (CCM).

Specialized Experience for DB-4 level: One year of specialized experience which includes experience in developing and/or executing complex theoretical research programs related to geotechnical and structural engineering, and the geosciences. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service DB-02 (GS-11). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Engineering, Computer Science, Physical Science. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. This position is covered by the Science and Technology Laboratory Personnel Management Demonstration Project at the DB-02 (equivalent to GS-05 to GS-11) target to the DB-04 (equivalent to GS-12 to 14) level. If selected at the DB-02 level, you have the potential to be non-competitively promoted to the DB-04 level based on successful performance in the position. In accordance with the Federal Register Vol.63, No. 57, dated March 25, 1998, and employee of the Laboratory Demonstration project must have a current average performance score of 2.5 or above in order to be selected for promotion. All applicants currently employed under a Laboratory Demonstration Project must include their most recent performance appraisal score as part of their electronic resume. If you are a Lab demo employee submitting your resume for the first time, or if you have previously submitted your resume without your most recent score, you must submit your resume now with the following statement to be included in the section on your training: Current Performance Rating is 2.5. Time in Grade Requirement for DB-02: Generally, candidates meet time in grade for the DB-02 (GS-05) level if he/she has not served in a non-temporary competitive appointment below the GS-05 (two grades below) level within preceding 52 weeks. Non-appropriated fund service, Non-General Schedule service, (e.g., WG) or combinations of certain other creditable service may be used to satisfy time-in-grade requirements when appropriate. Each case will be judged on its own merit. Time in Grade Requirement for DB-04: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent DB-02(GS-11).

Pay Range

$34,916.00 - $140,146.00
