Job Summary
This position is located in the Intermountain Region, Region 4, Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest in Sparks, Nevada. This position is the program manager responsible for Recreation and provides strategic guidance and leadership for the Recreation program activities, as well as associated program areas such as Wilderness and Trails Management. Major Duties
- Provides expert technical support, and facilitates an interdisciplinary approach to the development of long-range resource management action plans and short-range operating programs for recreation management activities.
- Formulates long-range resource management planning input, and participates with planning teams in the development of Forest long-range management plans.
- Evaluates program recommendations and modifications submitted by District Rangers or staff specialists for soundness, conformance and integration with other resource activities.
- Correlates all such recommendations into annual resource management plan for the Forest, recommending to the Line Officers whether they should adopt in whole or in part.
- Prepares detailed environmental analysis reports as needed and evaluates statements prepared by others of proposed recreation resource action to assure that the intent of the National Environmental Policy Act is met.
- Drafts policy, technical guides, standards, and methods for recreation management for use by Ranger Districts and subordinate staff.

Basic Requirement: GS-0101: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

Combination of education and experience -- that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.

Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. GS-0401: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in a major field of study that included 24 semester hours in course work in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. Related course work generally refers to courses that may be accepted as part of the program major.

Combination of education and experience that included 24 semester hours in course work in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, AND experience sufficient to demonstrate that I possess the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation that is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field needed to perform the work of the occupation. GS-0807: Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree that included a major field of study in landscape architecture or landscape design.

Combination of education and experience -- for each year short of graduation, the applicant must have had 1 year of experience under professional leadership and guidance of such character and diversity as to be a satisfactory substitute for the required education. This experience must have included original landscape design. In addition to meeting the basic requirement, you must also possess experience in the amounts listed below. Specialized Experience Requirement: For the GS-12 level: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level. Examples of specialized experience are: Provide expertise and advice in the administration of recreation program and projects; review proposals for new recreation facilities or activities and recommend action; ensure the new recreation facilities are in accordance with approved plans; coordinate future recreation use and development between units and among other specialist (engineers, wildlife biologist, etc.) to ensure consistency in program emphasis, development, and use between unit resources; provide expertise and advice in assessing current recreation use, type, and standards, and in long-range planning, maintenance, and operation of recreation facilities; review new recreation projects or proposed revisions of existing plans and coordinated action on approved projects. Work Experience: Your resume must clearly document the following for each block of work experience; the beginning day, month and year the work assignment started and ended; the hours worked per week; position title, and series and grade if applicable; and description of duties performed. TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENT: If you are a current federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirements of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. This requirement must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
Pay Range
$74,596.00 - $96,978.00
