Job Summary
Serves as a Space Scientist for the Astromaterials Research Office at NASA Johnson Space Center (JSC). This position involves leadership of a core analytical laboratory supporting directed astromaterial sample research and Mission support.
Major Duties
- Performs world-class research on the origin and evolution of our solar system and its rocky planetary bodies through in situ high-spatial resolution isotopic measurements.
- Writes success peer-viewed publications and proposals related to the research described above.
- Serves as laboratory manager of the ARES NanoSIMS laboratory. This includes providing requirements to contractor staff who support this laboratory.
- Supports human and robotic missions.
- Collaborates with existing ARES scientists and external partners in the detailed study of astromaterials.
- Provides service to the Agency and scientific community as required in his/her area of expertise (panel reviews, publication reviews, etc).
Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Education Requirement, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-13), which has equipped you with the particular competencies needed to successfully perform the duties of the position described above.To qualify for the GS-14:One year of specialized experience is defined as experience in applying knowledge of the operation, application, and maintenance of instrumentation for the in situ measurement of the isotopic properties of primitive materials; experience developing and applying a suite of analytical techniques to study astromaterials; experience in the chemical and physical properties of the primitive materials that may be returned from the carbonaceous asteroids targeted by robotic or human exploration (i.e., Carbonaceous Chondrites and/or Interstellar Dust Particles).Your resume must include a clear and detailed narrative description, in your own words, of how you meet the required specialized experience. Pay Range
$120,109.00 - $156,145.00
