Job Summary
This position is located in the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR), Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory(GLERL) with one vacancy in Ann Arbor, MI.
Major Duties
As a Student Intern (Physical Science Technician), you will perform the following duties:
- Perform a variety of aid and technical assignments pertaining to the scientific missions of the organization.
- Assist with research projects including the oversight of field data collection and the preparation of drawings, graphs, or charts using project data.
- Provide support for the production or publication of data bases and data collections.
- Operate various types of laboratory equipment and computer software associated with reference data programs.
- Assist in providing administrative support duties, including locating and compiling research data; organizing and maintaining files and records; preparing correspondence, reports, and briefing materials; and responding to general office inquiries.
- Assist senior staff, project officers, analytical staff, and other staff as necessary.
This position is not in the bargaining unit.
Qualifications
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: U.S. Citizen or U.S. National;
Must be at least 16 years of age at the time of appointment;
Be enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a student at least on a half-time basis at a qualifying educational institution in a certificate, degree, or diploma program;
Be in good academic standing as defined by the educational institution (at least a 2.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale);
Provide an official certified school transcript or proof of enrollment; and
If selected, must sign a Pathways Programs Internship Program Agreement after being appointed. Official transcripts will be required before you can report to duty. To qualify at the ZT-2 or GS-05 level:
EDUCATION:Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of physical science, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as physical science, engineering, or any branch of mathematics, except financial and commercial mathematics.
OR
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements above, applicant must also possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the ZT-1 or GS-04 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following: Assisting with collecting and sorting physical science data for reports and studies; and
Using laboratory equipment. ORSubstitution of Education and Experience:A combination of education and experience.

Pay Range
$37,219.00 - $66,374.00
