Job Summary

These positions are in the Environmental Protection Agency, Region 9, San Francisco CA. If selected, you must work at the location stated in this announcement. AboutRegion 9Salary will be based on the grade level for which you are selected.

Major Duties

At the GS-04 level, you will:

1. Perform routine and limited assignments petaining to the scientific mission of the organization.

2. Select appropriate methods and procedures for assignments based upon previous assignments or instructions.

3. Assist senior staff, project officers, analytical staff, and other staff as necessary.

4. Assist in the performance of other standardized support duties such as the collection of literature references and the organization of files.

At the GS-05 level, level, you will:

1. Select appropriate methods and procedures for assignments based upon previous assignments or instructions.

2. Assist senior staff, project officers, analytical staff, and other staff as necessary.

3. Assist in the performance of other standardized support duties such as the collection of literature references and the organization of files.

4. Complete developmental assignments that expand the employee's understanding of concepts, underlying principles, and progam requirements and procedures.

5. Perform routine tasks in science studies of a standard nature on regulatory and compliane issues and problems.

Qualifications

GS-4: The required education must lead to a bachelor's degree with specialization directly related to this position.

In addition to the eligibility requirements for the Pathways Internship Program, Pathways Interns qualify for an initial appointment based on their educational achievements as described below: To qualify for the GS-04 level, you need to have completed two full academic years of post-high school study or an associate’s degree.

GS-5: You must be enrolled in an academic program directly related to the position.

In addition to the eligibility requirements for the Pathways Internship Program, you need a degree or combination of education and experience as described below to qualify for this position:

0499: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position or a combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major shown above plus appropriate experience or additional education.

0899:A bachelor's degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor’s degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by ABET; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties);and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics OR a cmbination of education and experience -- college-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering.

1399: A bachelor's degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in physical science, engineering or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials and electronics or a combination of education and experience with education equivalent to one of the majors above that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to the minimum educational requirements below, you must have educational achievements and/or specialized experience related to this position as described below.

To qualify for the GS-05 level, you need to have completed four academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor’s degree or equivalent degree.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Pay Range

$38,069.00 - $55,372.00
