Job Summary

This position is located in the United States Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, Quality and Safety Assessment Research Unit with one vacancy in Jonesboro, Arkansas. This is a time-limited, excepted service position expected to last more than 1 year. The position's end date is based on when the intern obtains his/her degree (diploma, certificate, etc.), but cannot exceed 8 years in total, when the student intern remains eligible for the program.

Major Duties

  • Assists in sample collection and prepares supplies and peripherals for field and lab measurements.
  • Keeps detailed records of experimental data and tabulates data using personal computers and software packages.
  • Uses common laboratory equipment and apparatus to prepare various types of materials for use by others.
  • Prepares routine chemical reagents and solutions by weighing and measuring constituents according to standard methods.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements by 11:59 pm Eastern Time on the closing date of the announcement. Applicants must be seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) and be in good academic standing (GPA of 2.0 or equivalent) throughout the duration of their program. Please see "Required Documents". All applicants must be currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a student on at least a half-time schedule at a qualifying educational institution in a certificate, degree, or diploma program. At the GS-04:Education:

Completion of 2 full academic years of post-high school study or an associate's degree. Physical Demands:

The work requires some physical exertions, such as regular and recurring walking or bending. In many situations, the duration of the activity (e.g., continuous testing of samples) contributes to the arduous nature of the job. In other situations, there may be special requirements for agility or dexterity such as exceptional hand/eye coordination. Working Environment

The work requires moderate risks or discomforts which require special safety precautions, e.g., working around moving parts, machines, with irritant chemicals, bacteria, or obnoxious odors. The incumbent is required to use protective clothing or gear such as masks, gowns, goggles, gloves.

Pay Range

$31,208.00 - $40,569.00
