Job Summary

Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Enterprise Services, Office of Facilities and Asset Management, located in Washington, DC.

Major Duties

Joining Customs & Border Protection (CBP) will allow you to use your expertise in the areas of environmental protection and project management in overseeing and guiding major environmental projects. This position starts at a salary of $121,316.00 (GS-14, Step 1) to $157,709.00 (GS-14, Step 10) with promotion potential to $157,709 (GS-14 Step 10).

Typical work assignments include:

  • Overseeing the day-to-day administration and coordination of a broad range of critical, ongoing environmental program activities in support of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection mission;
  • Planning work to be accomplished by subordinates, setting and adjusting short-term priorities, and preparing schedules for completion of the work;
  • Assigning work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees;
  • Collaborating and coordinating extensively with key internal and external stakeholders on various environmental projects; and
  • Providing expert technical advice, guidance, interpretation, and consultation on national environmental laws and regulations and their applicability to complex/controversial environmental issues.

Qualifications

Experience: You qualify for the GS-14 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Serving as a team lead or primary specialist interpreting and explaining the environmental protection program laws, regulations, and requirements to management and employees; Determining the appropriate handling of complex environmental protection problems and issues; Analyzing information related to environmental impact studies; Analyzing and evaluating suspected environmental violations in the workplace; and Providing training to supervisors and employees on the environmental protection program. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 01/17/2020.
