Major Duties

  • Develop environmental procedures, projects and standards in accordance with Federal laws and Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) regulations.
  • Provide advice and services pertinent to the environment to assigned Activities.
  • Prepare reports, official correspondence, memorandums and information papers concerning all aspects of environmental programs.
  • Conduct environmental studies and surveys to identify problems and recommend modifications to operations relating to asbestos abatement, underground storage tank, solid waste management, water and, air quality standards.
  • Determine compliance with environmental regulations and policies, permit requirements and contract clauses.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of hazardous property management systems.
  • Identify practices that may subject the Government to potential for liability.
  • Conduct inspections of construction, operations and, maintenance activities to insure compliance with applicable environmental documents.
  • Serve as an environmental auditor and audit team leader to accomplish on-site surveillance of disposal contractors, purchasers of hazardous property and, facilities for the temporary storage of hazardous property.
  • Investigate and prepare complex cases of environmental violations and negotiate settlements or pursues enforcement actions.

Qualifications

To qualify for a Supervisory Environmental Protection Specialist, your resume and supporting documentation must support: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the particular competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To qualify at the GS-13 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level or, equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including time-in-grade (General Schedule (GS) positions only), time-after-competitive appointment, minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: Provide consulting services to installations on matters concerning environmental compliance laws, regulations, and policies Plan the overall direction of the environmental programs and develops environmental management solutions Advise how proposed operating changes could affect program compliance in order to offer alternate solutions that benefit mission objectives without influencing the integrity of the environmental program Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Pay Range

$94,433.00 - $122,766.00
