Job Summary

What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position? Salary: GS-13 $97,417 (Step 01) to $122,740 (Step 10). NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01.

Major Duties

As a SUPERVIORY HYDROLOGIST (Data Hydrologist) within the CARIBBEAN-FLORIDA WATER SCIENCE CENTER, some of your specific duties will include:

  • Responsible for administrative personnel management, and the scientific and technical direction of the section.
  • Plans and directs operation of hydrologic data collection network.
  • Establishes and overseas the Data Section quality-control procedures for data collection, storage, publication, and analysis.
  • Plans program and operations in the Science Center, and initiates and assigns projects in the section to fit the planning of the management team.
  • Operates a motor vehicle as an incidental driver.

Physical Demands: Work is primarily sedentary. Field work requires some physical exertion such as; long periods of standing, walking over rough, uneven, rocky surfaces; recurring bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, or similar activities; or recurring lifting of moderately heavy items weighing under 45lbs such as lifting and carrying stream gauging weights, data collection and monitoring devices, or sample trays.

Work Environment: Work is primarily performed in a typical office setting, Occasional filed work is required, The work regularly involves moderate risk or discomfort associated with visiting filed sites with limited access, under adverse weather or flooding conditions, or exposure to irritants or toxic chemicals. Work may require the use of special clothing or gear such as mask, coats, boots, goggles, respirators, or life jackets.

BASIC

EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Applicants must meet A or B below to satisfy the basic education requirement for Hydrologist, all grade levels.A. Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in physical or natural science, or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours or the equivalent in any combination of courses in hydrology, the physical sciences, geophysics, chemistry, engineering science, soils, mathematics, aquatic biology, atmospheric science, meteorology, geology, oceanography, or the management or conservation of water resources. The course work must have included at least 6 semester hours or the equivalent in calculus (including both differential and integral calculus), and at least 6 semester hours or the equivalent in physics. **OR B. A combination of education and experience-course work as shown in "A" above (30 semester hours or the equivalent in any combination of courses as specified in "A" above which must include at least 6 semester hours or the equivalent in calculus (including both differential and integral calculus), and at least 6 semester hours or the equivalent in physics), plus appropriate experience and/or additional education for a total of 4 years. The education or combined education and experience must be comparable in type, scope and thoroughness to that acquired through successful completion of a 4-year course of study as described in "A" above.

For GS-13:

In addition to the basic education requirement as stated above, applicants must have one year of appropriate professional experience in hydrology that is equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal service. Examples of such experience include planning, executing and reporting on original hydrologic studies or ongoing hydrologic studies requiring a fresh approach to resolve new problems. The complexity of this work typically required extensive modification and adaptation of standard procedures, methods, and techniques, and the development of totally new methods and techniques to address novel or obscure problems for which guidelines or precedents were not substantially applicable. At this level, Hydrologists have extensive knowledge of the principles of hydrology and highly developed ability in their application, and wide latitude for the exercise of independent judgment to perform scientific work of marked difficulty and responsibility.

Pay Range

$97,179.00 - $126,336.00
