Job Summary
The Branch Chief position is located within the U.S. Army Research and Development Center (ERDC), Environmental Laboratory, Ecosystem Evaluation Engineering Division, Aquatic Ecology & Invasive Species Branch. This position may be filled as a Supervisory Biologist, Supervisory Soil Scientist, Supervisory Physical Scientist, Supervisory Architect, or Supervisory Civil Engineer.
Major Duties
- Serves as Chief, Aquatic Ecology and Invasive Species Branch, under the general supervision of Chief, Ecosystem Evaluation and Engineering Division, Environmental Laboratory.
- Responsible for developing, planning, and executing a broad program of multidisciplinary environmental and environmentally related research.
- Participates in organizational strategic planning for the branch and translates these initiatives into prioritized branch actions.
- Supervises research staff in scoping, scheduling, budgeting, resourcing, and execution on environmental systems and processes composed of and related to aquatic ecology and invasive species.
- Responsible for selecting and supervising competent team leaders and/or principal investigators for in-house research projects and for ensuring that research results meet sponsors' objectives within allotted time and funding.
- Develops new research programs within the group's mission and works with team leaders to maintain adequate funding to support the personnel and facilities required to accomplish the mission.
- Makes assignments and gives technical instructions to team leaders, establishes constraints and priorities, and makes decisions as necessary to guide and control the work.
- Reviews proposals and scopes of work developed by branch personnel and directs and manages field, laboratory, and office work.
- Directs and reviews the development and production of technical reports and other forms of technology transfer for sponsoring offices, other agencies, and the scientific community.
- Attends conferences with superiors, sponsoring officials, consultants, and others for reports on progress, discussion of general and specific problems, formulation of plans, etc.
- Provides advisory, consulting, and reviewing service to assist in conduct of special staff studies designed to establish and enhance capabilities and programs in environmental processes.
- Prepares technical reports, miscellaneous papers, and other authoritative literature on assigned subjects.

The definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service DB-02 (GS-11). OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.

To qualify for DB-04 level applicants must possess general experience equivalent to the DB-01 level or GS-11 grade level. In accordance with the Federal Register Vol. 63, No. 57, dated March 25, 1998, an employee of the Laboratory Demonstration project must have a current average performance score of 2.5 or above in order to be selected for promotion. All applicants currently employed under a Laboratory Demonstration Project must include their most recent performance appraisal score as part of their electronic resume. Pay Range
$76,721.00 - $140,146.00
