Job Summary

What General Information Do I Need To Know About This Position? -Duty location can either be in Rapid City, SD or Bismarck, ND.-This is an interdisciplinary position and may be filled as aSupervisory Hydrologist, GS-1315-15,or Supervisory Biologist, GS-0401-15 and is being advertised concurrently with RES-2020-0151 open to current and former federal employees.

Major Duties

As the Center Director for the Dakota Water Science Center, some of your specific duties will include:

  • Provide leadership, oversight and implementation of Center and program mission.
  • Manage Center operations, assign resources, and assure management controls.
  • Responsible over professional, technical and support personnel, plans and schedules work, encourages diverse workforce and maintains workforce plan.
  • Responsible for quality of data and publications produced by the Center, report review, approval and publishing in accordance with Bureau guidelines.
  • Build effective working relationships with pertinent officials, actively promote USGS programs, and serve as a key member of senior leadership to the Midcontinent Region.

Hydrologist, GS-1315:https://www.usgs.gov/about/organization/science-support/human-capital/hy... In addition to the basic education requirements, you must have 1-year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the Federal service.

Biologist, GS-0401:

Examples of GS-14 level work may include: 1) Developing and coordinating major interdisciplinary projects that may impact regional scientific objectives; 2) developing or directly influencing the scientific, administrative and technical policies, standards, procedures, and instructions necessary for the effective direction and operation of a multi-discipline scientific program; 3) resolving critical problems resulting from the unprecedented complexities of a multi-discipline scientific study; 4) serving as the principal contact with other Federal agencies, state and local government organizations, and other groups that may affect the success of a major interdisciplinary scientific program. The work involved advising or counseling other recognized senior technical experts. Hydrologist, GS-1315:

Examples of such experience could include investigations that involved highly unstructured problems involving both difficult technology and complex human relations or programmatic issues. The results of these investigations had significant effects over a wide region of the United States, or may have included responsibility for new technology especially critical to the organization's programs. This work involved other recognized senior technical experts asking the scientist for advice or counsel due to his/her personal reputation in the field. You must meet all qualification and eligibility requirements for the position by the closing date of the announcement.

Pay Range

$126,810.00 - $164,858.00
