Job Summary
You will serve as the Director, Hydrographic Department at the Naval Oceanographic Office (NAVOCEANO). NAVOCEANO BAY ST LOUIS.
Major Duties
- You will reprogram and adjust resources and plans as necessary to meet rapidly changing technology, particularly regarding hydrographic/bathymetric data collection handling, formatting, display, and production.
- You will manage the survey planning, preparation of survey specifications, and manning of hydrographic and bathymetric surveys, and the production and updating of data in support of Digital Nautical Charts, hydrographic and bathymetric products.
- You will apply the latest automation techniques to the organization to increase production and reduce costs.
- You will maintain effective relationships with a variety of groups interested in, or dependent upon, the Hydrographic Department's programs, and promotes interdependency across NAVOCEANO departments in support of overall mission accomplishment.
- You will assess and manage the need for program support from various groups and organizations, in view of resource and public relation implications.
- You will be responsible for direct and indirect supervision of over 100 scientific, technical, and administrative employees.
- You will collaborate with heads of other units to negotiate, decide on, and coordinate work related changes affecting other units and NAVOCEANO mission goals or objectives.
Qualifications
In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-14 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience in hydrography, bathymetry, cartography, nautical charting, geodesy, geographic information systems (GIS) or marine navigation in order to serve as the expert in the area of hydrography and bathymetry relevant to Naval operations and to provide expert advice on assigned programs that have both national and international scope and impact.: Experience providing consultation for effective platform, weapon and sensor system performance, and safe and accurate navigation.; Experience in hydrographic data collection, data validation/processing and hydrograph/bathymetric product compilation/generation; Experience representing NAVOCEANO at international meetings with high level foreign and US functionaries; Experience in formulating and implementing internal policies and procedures for the organization in the areas of utilizing personnel resources, financial management, procurement, program planning, and program management. Pay Range
$123,298.00 - $160,286.00
