The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a first level supervisor, providing planning, directing, organizing, and exercising control over nonsupervisory employees assigned to centralized weather organization producing mission-tailored meteorological products and service for Army and Air Force units.

Major Duties

  • Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of organization, ensuring that meteorological products and services comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs.
  • Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
  • Represents lead organization with a variety of installation and functional areas within the overall organization.
  • Provides mission-tailored meteorological products and services.
  • Conducts meteorological watch.
  • Conducts airfield weather observing operations.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the Specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Meteorological Technician Series, 1341; in conjunction with the Group Coverage Standard for Technical and Medical Support Position BASIC REQUIREMENT OR INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-10, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes measuring meteorological phenomena with scientific equipment and instrumentation; observing and recording atmospheric characteristics, i.e., temperature, air movement, visibility, pressure, air density, cloud types; decoding, plotting, and systematically recording data related to the physical characteristics of the atmosphere, i.e., charts, diagrams, cross sections; and -Collecting, analyzing, interpreting, adjusting, and verifying atmospheric and other meteorological data to confirm and improve accuracy and efficacy. Due to the use of 120-day rosters, this period of experience may be completed within 120 days of the closing date of this announcement. This definition of general experience is typical of work performed at the GS-10 grade/level or equivalent position in the federal service. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-­grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-10 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-11 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or have held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. Due to the use of 120 day rosters, applicants within 120 days of completion of the TIG requirement are encouraged to apply. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of meteorology including a wide range of meteorological methods, techniques, and practices; as well as weather observing, forecasting, communications, meteorological systems, and support procedures. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of a small to medium sized organization (Air Force weather operations). Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. Skill in using weather software programs, office productivity software applications, and various types of Air Force communications systems. Ability to measure meteorological phenomena with scientific equipment and instrumentation and collect, analyze, interpret, adjust, and verify atmospheric or other meteorological data to confirm and improve its accuracy and effectiveness. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Pay Range

$64,009.00 - $83,210.00
