The primary purpose of this position is to serve a first level supervisor, providing planning, directing, organizing, and exercising control over nonsupervisory employees assigned to 557th Weather Wing Plans and Programs (557 WW/XP).

Major Duties

  • Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of 557 WW/XP Requirements and Meteorological Operations Integration work unit, ensuring that 557 WW weather and space support complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meet customer needs.
  • Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
  • Represents 557 WW with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-12, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes overseeing physical processes of weather including clouds, precipitation, and aerosols to develop numerical weather prediction models; and providing scientific and technical services in support of all weather operations. One year at the GS-12 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-13 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of meteorology including geophysical fluid dynamics, physical and cloud processes, numerical weather predictions, and meteorological satellite applications with the ability to exercise independent judgment and original thought as related to atmospheric science and meteorological applications.

2. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.

3. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions of the staff of a small to medium sized organization.

4. Knowledge of end-user requirements for meteorological information.

5. Knowledge of DoD, Air Force, and 557 WW regulations, instructions, policies and procedures, and ability to apply procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to specialized expertise in the work of the unit, including the ability to maintain credibility with other on technical matters.

6. Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing, both in technical and administrative communication, to plan, organize, and direct the functions and mentor, and motivate the staff of an organization, and to work in a team environment and to maintain professional working relationships with other members within the 557 WW and the DoD. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Pay Range

$91,530.00 - $118,992.00
