Job Summary
This position is located with the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Navajo Region in Shiprock, New Mexico. The incumbent is responsible for planning, implementing and administering the range management, wildlife habitat management, and related land and water programs.
Major Duties
- Supervise overall program activities on technical matters relating to natural resources, economic use of renewable resources, range improvements and land management.
- Formulates range management plans for the overall land base and specific management areas.
- Insures adequate technical support and assistance to generate data and planning for efficient use of land and water resources.
- Establishes and maintains effective communication with the public, Tribal organizations, State and other Federal agencies relating to program plans, policies and activities.
- Serves as technical advisor to determine the available of useable forage, the allocation of grazing privileges, resolution of land management and use problems or conflicts.
- Provides budget requirements to support the annual program plan.
Qualifications
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS: (OPM Operating Manual, Qualification Standards for Professional and Scientific Positions and Individual Occupational Requirements for GS-0401: General Biological Science Series). BASIC REQUIREMENTS 1. Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resources management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. -OR- 2. Combination of education and experience that included course work equivalent to a major (i.e., 24 semester hours) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or a discipline closely related to Natural Resources; PLUS appropriate experience or additional education. ADDITIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: In addition to meeting the basic entry level qualification requirements, applicants must have the following: GS-12: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-11 level in the Federal service, preparing and advising on natural resources regulations and guidance; experience in rangeland vegetation measurement, qualitative, quantitative analysis theories, methods and techniques; developing environmental reports and impact statements; developing and implementing land use plans, coordinating the surveying, monitoring, analyzing, and evaluating of natural resources to permit multiple land uses while preserving the ecological viability. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Merit Promotion candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the announcement closing date. Pay Range
$74,937.00 - $97,422.00
