Job Summary

These positions are located at Arkabutla Lake Field Office and Sardis Lake Field Office (1 each) which have extensive recreational facilities, substantial and recurring natural resource management activities, and high annual recreation attendance. Shares responsibility with the manager for planning, scheduling, assigning, and reviewing the work assigned employees in the construction, operation, maintenance and overall management of the assigned area.

Major Duties

  • Develop techniques to improve the efficiency of environmental management.
  • Inspect project sites such as recreation areas and public use facilities to ensure safety for visitors
  • Monitor and evaluate recreation trends for the development of future facilities and programs.
  • Develop contract specifications to support project operations
  • Implement visitor assistance program to promote public safety and security.
  • Coordinate with management on a variety of facilities and visitor information centers.
  • Review position descriptions for accuracy and recommends action to revise inaccurate descriptions and/or reassign duties
  • Initiate formal action on personnel and position actions, promotions, probationary performance, job description changes, incentive awards, etc.
  • Recommend changes in organizational structures to efficiently accomplish project objectives.

Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Basic Requirement for Natural Resources Specialist (Park Ranger): A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position. OR B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience One year of specialized experience which includes (1) experience developing plans for the conservation, preservation and use of a project's natural resources; (2) experience overseeing the operation, maintenance and development of a recreation facility; and (3) experience in Flood Control and Dam Safety performing relief well measurements, piezometer readings, gate operations, gauge readings, and overall inspection of the dam and related structures. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09) OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

Pay Range

$62,236.00 - $80,912.00
