Job Summary
This position is located in National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service, National Centers for Environmental Information (NCEI)with one vacancy in Stennis Space Center.You will serve as a Supervisory Oceanographer for Marine Ecosystems within NCEI.This position is being advertised for U.S. Citizens under announcement number NSDIS-NCEI-2020-0017. Major Duties
As a Supervisory Oceanographer, you will perform the following duties:
- Perform supervisory responsibilities, including planning and distributing work to be accomplished by subordinates; set and adjust short- and long-term priorities, and prepare schedules for the completion of work.
- Research and analyze oceanographic and ancillary data sets and model simulation to understand natural ocean phenomena.
- Design, collect, compile, process, analyze and interpret oceanographic data and prepare data reports and scientific articles.
- Assess data quality, address historical biases, and quantify data uncertainty in order to develop data sets and scientific products that characterize the world oceans.

Degree: major study of at least 24 semester hours in oceanography or a related discipline such as physics, meteorology, geophysics, mathematics, chemistry, engineering, geology, or biology, plus 20 additional semester hours in any combination of oceanography, physics, geophysics, chemistry, mathematics, meteorology, computer science, and engineering sciences.orB. Combination of education and experience -- course work as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.Applicants who qualify on the basis of major study in biology or geology must have had at least 6 semester hours in the major directly concerned with marine science or 6 semester hours in oceanography; applicants who qualify on the basis of other physical sciences or engineering must have had differential and integral calculus and at least 6 semester hours in physics.College Transcript:If you are qualifying based on education, submit a copy of your college transcript that lists college courses detailing each course by the number and department (i.e., bio 101, math 210, etc.), course title, number of credit hours and grade earned. Specialized Experience: Applicant must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the ZP-3 or GS-12 level in the Federal service that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of a Supervisory Oceanographer. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following: Experience in researching and analyzing oceanographic data and ancillary sets and/or model simulation.
Design, collect, compile, process, analyze and interpret oceanographic data.
Assess data quality, address historical biases, and quantify data uncertainty.
Pay Range
$91,231.00 - $140,146.00
