Job Summary

You will serve as a Supervisory Physical Scientist in the Armed Forces Radiobiology Research Institute (AFRRI), Radiation Sciences Department (RSD), Reactor Division of the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS).

Major Duties

  • You will serve as the Chief, Reactor Division and provide supervision, direction, and oversight over the Reactor Division staff.
  • You will assume the duties of the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (USNRC) mandated training officer.
  • You will oversee the training of personnel for obtaining USNRC operating licenses and for re-certification of personnel with existing licenses.
  • You will exercise full budgetary control over the Reactor Division, ensuring that all fiscal, statutory, maintenance and operational requirements of the Reactor Division, mandated by the DoD, USNRC, AFRRI and the University are satisfied.
  • You will direct the performance of opereations of the University/AFFRI TRIGA (research reactor) to include reactor start-ups, k-excess measurements, calibrations of nuclear safety systems, and the exposure of experiments to various radiation fields.
  • You will evaluate procedures, personnel, equipment, and programs for safety and potentially hazardous situations.
  • You will design changes to reactor systems, prepare analysis and write supporting documentation for appropriate approval.
  • You will test and document the results on all reactor systems.
  • You will provide supervision and direction to reactor staff in performance of all their assigned tasks to include reactor operations, logistics, training, and special projects.
  • You will develop lectures, laboratory training, creating and administering examinations, preparing and presenting programs on reactor theory, nuclear physics, principles of reactor operations, nuclear administration and process control.
  • You will ensure training of personnel in nuclear safety, emergency systems, standard and emergency operating procedures, radiation safety, radioactive materials handling and disposal, fuel handling and core physics.

Qualifications

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-13) or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional Scientist or Engineer applying scientific concepts and theories to conduct nuclear reactor operations in accordance with regulations or safety guidelines. Pay Range

$117,191.00 - $152,352.00
