Job Summary

This position serves as Dredge Contract Inspector supporting navigation and lake projects throughout the Lakes and Rivers Division. Responsible for conducting various types of field surveys utilizing multiple equipment platforms, collecting, processing and analyzing date and presenting in the required formats for delivery to end users. This position is located in located in Huntington WV.

Major Duties

  • Directs maintenance dredging field activities.
  • Ensures accomplishment of dredging in compliance with all pertinent Federal and State water quality standards, dredge and fill standards, and/or permit requirements.
  • Maintains records relating to navigation projects, channel conditions, pre and post dredging operations.
  • Conducts a variety of surveys ranging in accuracy up to first order work.
  • Inspects or directs the inspection of the major navigation waterways during bad ice conditions to collect information concerning ice location and position of tows.
  • Evaluates equipment problems and determines when repairs are needed and assures that they are accomplished.
  • Initiates and manages automated equipment and software
  • Participates in recovery and investigative efforts connected with marine accidents affecting or involving navigable channels.
  • Operates survey boats to perform necessary hydro-graphic and reconnaissance surveys requiring a high degree of skill in operating in swift or shallow water.

For GS-09: One year of specialized experience which includes preparing plans and reports to document progress of project activities; maintain files regarding the inspection reports of projects; process survey results and enter into automated software and use software programs to enter data regarding project updates. For GS-10: One year of specialized experience which includes preparing layouts for civil engineer designs; communicate with internal/external stakeholders to improve schedule solutions; utilize computerized drafting and design software to process survey data and develop base maps and drawings and use scheduling software programs to monitor projects. For GS-11: One year of specialized experience which includes plan and execute drawings; utilize computerized drafting and design software to process survey data and develop base maps and drawings; and use scheduling software programs to monitor projects; manage automated equipment and software; direct dredge inspections. Pay Range

$51,440.00 - $80,912.00
