MajorDuties

As the SURVEY TECHNICIAN, you will:

  • Provide daily guidance to field monumentation crew's operations with occasional direction from a land surveyor.
  • Operate survey equipment in order to perform cadastral surveys,including theodolites, EDMI, electronic total stations and Global Positioning System receivers and processors.
  • Perform computations to the extent required to traverse using conventional survey methods.
  • Assist a land surveyor in the reduction of data from raw field form to latitudes and departures of coordinates for mathematical analysis.
  • Prepare or provide information for preparing all necessary administrative documents such as time and attendance, travel vouchers, vehicle maintenance and operational reports.
  • Work around aircraft, all-terrain vehicles, motor vehicles, and watercraft.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To be creditable, this experience must have been for 1 year and equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled. (If the position was seasonal, your resume must show periods worked. To be qualified as a GS-07, you must: Have at least one year of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in the Federal service using the pertinent instruments and techniques of surveying. Examples of specialized experience examples include work as an engineering technician, soil conservation technician, construction inspector, or work assisting professional land surveyors in the measurement or determination of distances, elevations, areas, angles, land boundaries, and/or other features of the Earth's surface, and/or assisting land surveyors in setting monuments OR Have successfully completed one full year of graduate education (a) with major study in an appropriate field of surveying, engineering, construction, or industrial technology, or (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of the following courses: surveying, engineering, industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, forestry, geography, navigation, cartography, physical science, or mathematics. OR Have a combination of Experience and Education: An equivalent combination of specialized experience and education, as described above.

Pay Range

$46,859.00 - $60,919.00
