American Physiological Society (APS)

Description:

The Online Teacher (OT) Professional Development program is designed for middle and high school science teachers. Over the course of one year, participants explore, apply, and reflect on Six Star Science, a research-based framework for supporting excellence in science education (see Resources below). OTs also engage in online discussions, design and implement experiments, and utilize tools and strategies to enhance student-centered learning by effectively transforming lessons. The program does NOT require teachers to add to their curriculum; instead, it gives teachers tools for enhancing state mandated curricula. The program is open to middle and high school science teachers from all science disciplines with a minimum of one full year of teaching experience and currently teaching in a U.S. school at the time of application. The program especially invites teachers working in rural areas, school systems with limited resources, primarily minority schools to apply, and teacher teams from one school site.
