The NC OneMap initiative, directed by the North Carolina Geographic Information Coordinating Council, provides a huge amount of information on North Carolina's geology, natural resources, and environmental management, including:

  • Hazards - landslides, wildfire risk, flood zones, hurricane storm surge risk, hurricane evacuation routes
  • Wind power potential
  • Water quality, sources, and distribution
  • Broad-scale geology
  • Waste management
  • Land use
  • Emergency services

A remarkable amount of general information is also available through this service, including ecology, transportation, planning, and census data. The map allows users to select multiple layers that can be overlain on one another. By doing this, users can see how different features are related. The data can also be downloaded for further use and analysis.

Click here to access the NC OneMap map viewer. To add layers to the map, click on "Find Services". Users can either search for keywords or leave the search bar blank to browse through all of the available map layers.
