Abstract:

A strong dollar, record U.S. trade deficits, sagging oil prices, and metal production outstripping demand resulted in a relatively quiet and depressed year for most metal markets. During the first half of the year, the value of the U.S. dollar reached new highs internationally against the yen, mark, and pound with a negative impact for U.S. exports.
