The Society for Organic Petrology shared a fun story authored by Cortland Eble of the Kentucky Geological Survey/The University of Kentucky. In his work on the Cleveland Member of the Late Devonian Ohio Shale he has identified unusually large pieces of bitumen that he has dubbed "Godzillianite." Eble describes their occurrence in the shale, and muses about their possible origins. For more organic petrology the joint meeting of TSOP-AASP-ICCP is happening in Houston, TX from September 18-23.
