The Geo-Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers celebrated the value of soil mechanics with Karl Terzaghi Day on Monday, October 3rd. Terzaghi is credited as one of the fathers of soil mechanics. There were pictures of Terzaghi lecturing at Harvard, and a foreward he wrote for the first issue of the Canadian Geotechnical Journal. The USGS shared a figure of landslides nothing that Terzaghi's equations are still used in landslide research. The Geo-Institute celebrated with a luncheon and lecture. At AGI we shared an article published by the Geotimes Magazine in 2002 about "Big Dig" that had been happening in Boston at that point, which still drew upon the theories set forth by Terzaghi.
