NWS Releases 2017 #Hurricane Season Forecast

US Residents may need to button down the hatches a bit more this year because the the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration released their prediction for the 2017 hurricane season and there's a 45% chance it will be a higher-than-average season. Based on current predictions there is a 70% chance of 11-17 named storms this year. As in past years the National Hurricane Center toured its planes and EARTH Magazine was able to interview outgoing Director Rick Knabb about the role of the center's hurricane air fleet, and how hurricane forecasting has improved in recent years.
