At the most recent AGI Member Society Council meeting in Houston, we discussed many topics of interest to our community, including the upcoming March for Science, which will be held on April 22, 2017.

To embrace our role as a respected, nonpartisan source of information that reflects the breadth and depth of the geosciences, we are not taking a position on the March. In a formal statement, our Executive Director, Ms. Allyson Anderson Book, emphasized our commitment to brokering “open, respectful communication between different sectors of the geoscience community, and between geoscientists, decision makers, and the public, regardless of political or other affiliations.”

Several of our member societies have chosen to endorse the march, but many have not: we value the thought that all our societies have put into their decisions, and understand and respect the choices that they have made.

Our full statement on the March for Science is available online. As we approach April 22, this webpage will be updated with more information on March events for AGI member organizations, should any of you decide to participate.
