Group of senators urge President Trump to fill key science positions

April 21, 2017

Senator Maggie Hassan (D-NH) led a group of senators on the Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee in urging President Donald Trump to appoint well-qualified experts for critical science positions within his administration. As of April 21, nearly 100 days into his presidency, President Trump has not yet appointed a Science Advisor, OSTP Director, or Chief Technology Officer.

In a letter to President Trump, the senators expressed support for the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP), and emphasized the importance of science and technology for matters concerning national security, economic growth, innovation, and various other challenges and opportunities that our nation faces in modern society.

The letter was also signed by Bill Nelson (D-FL), Ed Markey (D-MA), Gary Peters (D-MI), Tom Udall (D-NM), Cory Booker (D-NJ), Catherine Cortez Masto (D-NV), and Brian Schatz (D-HI).
