The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is pleased to announce that the theme of Earth Science Week 2012 will be "Discovering Careers in the Earth Sciences." This year's event will boost awareness about the geosciences and the many exciting career and job opportunities in the field.

Decision Points in the Geoscience Career Pathway Study Launched by AGI and YES Network

The YES Network, with the support of the American Geological Institute (AGI), the Geological Society of London (GSL), and the Geological Society of America (GSA) is conducting a study to determine the key decision points in the career pathways for early-career geoscientists (from university through 10 years post-graduation).

AGI Hosts Expanded Access to the 2009 YES Congress

The American Geological Institute (AGI) successfully hosted the virtual component of the first Young Earth-Scientist (YES) Congress held in Beijing, China October 25-28 in an effort to expand the opportunity for participation to young scientists from around the world. Over 200 individuals from 31 countries took advantage of this unique opportunity to participate, even without attending in person in Beijing.

Geoscience Students Missing Job Opportunities

The American Geological Institute (AGI) has conducted a survey of students majoring in the geosciences and faculty to ascertain their attitudes towards employment in the geosciences. With a large percentage of the workforce retiring in coming years, job opportunities for recent graduates are plentiful with more openings than applicants to fill them. But many students are either unaware or uninterested in the fields where these employment opportunities exist.
