The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) has published a consensus document which outlines strategies for identifying and addressing issues of workplace harassment in the geosciences. An ad hoc committee consisting of representatives from ten geoscience associations or institutions from across industry and academia was convened by AGI to examine the topic of harassment. This same committee ultimately drafted the consensus document, which was formally approved by the AGI Executive Committee on April 9, 2018.
The National Association of Geoscience Teachers (NAGT) is pleased to announce a new initiative: Serving Our Communities. From local communities to international efforts, education and geoscience both play important roles in our society. The Serving our Communities initiative celebrates the way that geoscience educators and students are engaging with local, national and global communities.
These guidelines address common ethical topics across the geoscience community; the ethics statements of individual societies may expand beyond these guidelines.
