NGWA: New Washington Update

The National Ground Water Association published a new Washington Update. They reported that the NGWA Regulatory Affairs Officer participated in a White House Roundtable on National Drought Resistance Resilience and discussed the importance of groundwater monitoring and modeling, the National Ground-Water Monitoring Network and infrastructure financing programs.

NOAA View is a data exploration tool produced by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and developed by the NOAA Environmental Visualization Laboratory. Interactive map of natural hazards in Nevada

The Nevada Bureau of Mines and Geology's MyHAZARDS web app provides information on earthquakes, floods, fires, and other natural hazards in interactive map form. The map covers all of Nevada, as well as portions of surrounding states for certain datasets. The map includes:

AWRA releases second volume of report on flood and drought management in the US

The American Water Resources Association (AWRA) Policy Committee released the second volume of their report, “Proactive Flood and Drought Management”.

EARTH: Protracted Drought Threatens California Levees

We're most accustomed to flooding causing levees to fail, like they did in New Orleans during Hurricane Katrina. So although the El Nino-induced floods are making the most news in California right now, it's not actually the floods that are threatening some California levees the most. Instead it's the severe drought over the last four years that has taken its toll on thousands of kilometers of century-old earthen levees.

EARTH: Declining U.S. Water Use a Challenge For Models

Water demand in communities nationwide is decreasing due to better efficiency and more effective conservation programs, but also due to demographic shifts that may require a rethink in the way that water usage is modeled.
