The Montana Bureau of Mines and Geology announced its 2017 Symposium will happen in October, 2017. It is billed as "a forum where professionals, students, and amateurs interested in mineralogy and economic geology can share knowledge about mineral occurrences in the northern Rocky Mountain Region." Caving is an age-old hobby that brings people together to explore the worlds that exist beneath our feet. The National Speleological Society (NSS) is a member of AGI and promotes responsible and safe caving practices. The Geological Society of London announced that Richard Hughes will lead the organization starting in May. He is a fellow of the organization, and a chartered geologist. He currently Director of Business Development at the Coal Authority and was previously the Director of Information at the British Geological Survey.
We have begun publishing a new suite of information products: case studies and factsheets on specific issues at the interface of geoscience and society. Our first factsheet, on groundwater use in the United States, is now live on our website.
