ASCE: Role of Civil Engineers in National Parks

The Executive Director of American Society of Civil Engineers, the parent organization of the Geo-Institute, posted a dispach from Yellowstone National Park and reflected on the ways civil engineers helped shape it with roads, water systems, and hydroelectric systems among many others. Additionally, ASCE's Report Card for America's Infrastructure highlighted that in recent years over $12 billion has been deferred from park maintence.

Today the American Geophysical Union publication EOS shared a story that looks at geoscience research happening in U.S. National Parks as a way to highlight geoscience during the NPS Centennial Celebration.

Using Leaflet and htmlwidgets in a Hugo blog post

We are excited to use many of the JavaScript data visualizations in R using the htmlwidgets package in future blog posts. Having decided on using Hugo, one of our first tasks was to figure out a fairly straightforward way to incorporate these widgets. This post describes the basic process to get a basic leaflet map in our Hugo-generated blog post.

NGWA: Peter G. McCornick to Give Keynote at Dec. Meeting.

The National Groundwater Association has announced that Peter G. McCornick, PhD, PE, D. WRE will give the keynote at NGWA’s Groundwater Week and the Irrigation Association’s 2016 Irrigation Show and Education Conference and is titled, Water for Food Security: Solutions for the Context. “Food and water security are two major interrelated challenges facing the world.
