In the most recent IUGS E-Bulletin, IUGS announced the passing of Prof. Zhang Hongren on July 16, 2016, on Beijing. He had been active with the organization since the 1990's, and served as the Secretary-General of the Organizing Committee of the 30th International Geological Congress that was held in Beijing in 1996. In addition to many accolades, it was under his leadership that IUGS promoted the International Year of Planet Earth.

During the First Family's visit to the Carlsbad Caverns, NCKRI Executive Director and Education Director were able to snap a quick picture with President Obama.

The Paleontological Society has conferred an Honorary Junior Paleontologist title to Amery Green (scroll to page #22). Amery, who suffers from Mitochondrial Disease, aspires to grow up to be a paleontologist. The idea was brought to the Paleontological Society by the Aurora Fossil Museum Director Cynthia Crane, and the Executive Committee approved the measure in three days.

The Seismological Society of America has announced it will host a joint international conference with the Latin American and Caribbean Seismological Commission. The meeting will be held in San Juan, Puerto Rico in April 2018. 

The Society of Exploration Geophysicists approved a new antiharassment policy. In an article published in their publication, "The Leading Edge" they noted that the previous antiharassment policy applied to staff, but it did not address interactions between members and other participants in their meetings and activities.

It was announced that Arizona State Geologist Lee Allison was hospitalized for a critical injury sustained on Saturday. We at AGI send Lee and his family our sincerest wishes of hope and support during this time.
