New American Geosciences Institute officers elect welcomed at the Geological Society of America Meeting.

The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is pleased to welcome the 2013-2014 President, Dr. Berry H. (Nick) Tew, Jr. He will be inducted at the Friends of AGI Reception held during the Geological Society of America (GSA) Annual Meeting in Denver, Colorado on October 28, 2013.

The U.S. Geological Survey is hosting the inaugural Best Student Geologic Map Competition. This competition is open to university-level students and entries will be judged at the 125th Annual Geological Society of America Meeting held in Denver, CO from October 27th through 30th 2013. A judging panel will select three winners during a special session convened on October 29th, 2013. The special session will double as a networking hour for students to share their experiences and techniques.

Dennis Trombatore, long-time member and Chair of the GeoRef Advisory Committee, has been named the 2012 winner of the William B. Heroy Award for Distinguished Service to the American Geosciences Institute. Trombatore will be honored for his illustrious service at the AGI Past President's Dinner held during the Geological Society of America (GSA) meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina on November 4, 2012.

The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is pleased to announce Dr. Thomas H. Jordan as the 2012 winner of the Outstanding Contribution to the Public Understanding of the Geosciences Award. Professor Jordan is recognized for his contributions to science and his efforts to increase the public awareness of earthquake processes, probabilities, preparedness, and risk at an international level. Jordan will receive this esteemed award at the AGI Past Presidents Dinner held during the Geological Society of America meeting in Charlotte, North Carolina on November 4, 2012.

Earth Science Week 2011 will kick-off with the fifth annual International EarthCache Day on Sunday, October 9th. The public is invited to join the Geological Society of America (GSA), organizer of the global EarthCache program, and the American Geological Institute (AGI), Earth Science Week coordinators, in exploring this exciting and educational earth science experience.

Jonathan G. Price has been named the 28th recipient of the Medal in honor of Ian Campbell for Superlative Service to the Geosciences. Price will be presented this prestigious award at the Geological Society of America Presidential Address Ceremony in Portland, Oregon on October 17, 2009.
