The International Union of Geological Sciences has posted its second open call for the its global initiative called Resourcing Future Generations (RFG), to bring geoscientists together to address the world's future resource needs head-on. Bids for small top-up grants to take forward discrete pieces of work in support of RFG. Grants will average $3000, but more may be awarded. On Monday November 14, the National Academies' Committee on Earth Resources held a meeting on Mineral and Energy Resource Issues for the Coming Decade. The meeting covered a wide range of issues and focused on the scientific and technical advances and challenges that will affect mineral and energy resources in the near future. #MapOfTheDay! Today the Critical Issues Program (@AGI_GeoIssues) shared Mines of Ohio, an interactive map of geothermal resources in the U.S.

The Society of Economic Geologists has announced two upcoming events. The first is the "Tethyan Tectonics and Metallogeny" in Çesme, Turkey, September 25-28, 2016. From November 29th-December 2nd, 2016 SEG will be offering a Senior Exploration Management Course at the SEG Course Center in Littleton, Colorado. The Society for Mining, Metallurgy & Exploration (SME), announced that it is accepting applications for the 2016 scholarship season through October 15, 2016. SME scholarships are available to SME student members who seek a career in the mining and minerals industries. This year more than $425,000 in scholarships will be awarded by SME Divisions, the SME Foundation, the Women’s Auxiliary to AIME (WAAIME), and the Underground Construction Association of SME (UCA of SME). Additionally, several memorial scholarships have been created to honor Society luminaries and their contributions to the industry. 

The Society for Mining and Metallurgy Exploration, Inc. (SME) has posted a new Technical Briefing Paper on the website regarding Federal Support for U.S. Mining Schools. In it they provide background on the issue, outline reasons investment in these programs is valuable to the American public and provide options for action.
