Claudia Mora
Claudia Mora

President

Claudia Mora serves as Dean of the Jackson School of Geosciences at the University of Texas at Austin. Previously, she held positions as Deputy Division Leader (Chemistry) and Group Leader (Earth and Environmental Sciences) at Los Alamos National Laboratory (2007-2020) and as faculty and Department Head (Earth and Planetary Sciences) at the University of Tennessee-Knoxville. Mora has served in many leadership roles, as past president of the Geological Society of America (GSA), councilor for the International Union of Geological Sciences, member of two U.S. National Committees, the National Science Foundation GEO Advisory Board, National Academy of Sciences Boards (BESR and DELS), and on the Governance Advisory Committee of the Science Foundation of Ireland Research Centre in Applied Geosciences.

Doug Bartlett
Doug Bartlett

Doug Bartlett is principal hydrogeologist and co-founder of Clear Creek Associates, a subsidiary of Geo-Logic Associates. Bartlett has more than 45 years of experience as a geologist and hydrogeologist with diverse experience in groundwater computer modeling, hydrogeologic investigations, and mining-related hydrogeologic services. He was a contributing author to the American Society of Civil Engineers' Environmental and Water Resources Institute (ASCE/EWRI) recent publication, "Standard Guidelines for Managed Aquifer Recharge." He is also former National President and Treasurer of the American Institute of Professional Geologists.

Anna C. Shaughnessy
Anna C. Shaughnessy

Past President

Anna C. Shaughnessy received her BSc from the University of Gothenburg, Sweden and her MSc from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). She started her career as an interpreter geophysicist with Mobil Oil and has worked in the energy industry for thirty years, primarily in exploration, technology development and deployment. During her energy industry career, she has held leadership roles at Mobil, Saudi Aramco, Texaco and Kerr-McGee. Anna transferred to the academic sector in 2011 and became the Executive Director of the Earth Resources Laboratory (ERL), at MIT. She retired in 2018.

Maria Angela Capello
Maria Angela Capello

Maria Angela Capello (MAC) is a renowned leader in the energy sector and a relentless advocate of sustainability and geosciences. She is President of Red Tree Consulting LLC and Co-Chair of United Nations Economic Commission for Europe Women in Resource Management and has advanced leading roles in Kuwait Oil Company, Halliburton, and Petróleos de Venezuela (PDVSA). She is a member of the GEO National Science Foundation Advisory Council and is the Chair of the Management Technical Section of the Society of Petroleum Engineers International (SPE), and the Sustainability Committee of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG). Her work has been recognized by the Italian Government through the “Star of Italy” honor (knighthood), and by the UNESCO endorsing her work leading the “Geosciences in Action – Advancing Sustainable Development.” She is an Honorary Member of SPE and Lifetime Member of SEG, and has been a Distinguished Lecturer for SPE, SEG, and AAPG. She is a Ph.D. in Earth and Environmental Sciences candidate at the University of Plymouth (United Kingdom), and has a M.Sc. in Geophysics from the Colorado School of Mines.

Matthew Rhoades
Matthew Rhoades

Matthew Rhoades, CPG, RG, is an economic geologist and Lead Geologist at WSP, bringing experience across industry, government, and consulting. His work spans geologic, hydrogeologic, permitting, and exploration program management in mineral and resource development. He served as State Geologist of New Mexico and Director of the New Mexico Bureau of Geology and Mineral Resources. He is a former President (2022) and Treasurer (2019–2020) of the AIPG, as well as a member of SEG.

Dawn Garcia
Dawn Garcia

Member at Large

Dawn Garcia, is a hydrogeologist and a licensed professional geologist with over 35 years of experience in environmental permitting and compliance, mine life cycle planning, and hydrologic projects. She has worked in characterization, remediation, and reclamation projects at sites ranging from mineral development to operations to closure. She has strong experience in high-level reviews, due diligence, and preparation of documents associated with investor disclosure. She has visited hundreds of mineral development projects and mining operations. Garcia has served as the Geologist Member of the Arizona Board of Technical Registration by appointment of the Governor. She has been a member of the American Institute of Professional Geologists for over 30 years and received the Martin Van Couvering Memorial Award for distinguished service to the profession of geology. She served as 2023 President of the organization. Dawn is a Senior Associate with Stantec in Tucson, Arizona.

Shirley Jackson
Shirley Jackson

Shirley Jackson is a faculty member at York College/City University of New York in New York City and serves on the Executive Board of Directors of the Association for Women Geoscientists. She was selected for the “2072 Justice in Geoscience Writing Team,” served as a speaker and mentor for professional development workshops for Geological Society of America (GSA) On To the Future (OTF) program at GSA Connects 2022, and is an active member of the AGI Intersociety Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee. In addition, Jackson is a member of the National Association of Black Geoscientists, the International Association for Geoscience Diversity, the American Geophysical Union, and GSA.

Emily B. Cahoon
Emily B. Cahoon

Emily B. Cahoon is a geochemist, petrologist, mineralogist, and volcanologist specializing in the geochemistry of volcanic terranes and magmatic processes. She holds advanced degrees in geology with an MS from Washington State University, a Ph.D. from Portland State University, and a professional license as a Registered Geologist in Oregon. Cahoon has 15 years of geological research and work experience in mineral resources, geoanalytical techniques and instrumentation, and environmental consulting.

Nick Tew
Nick Tew

Berry H. (Nick) Tew is the State Geologist and Oil and Gas Supervisor of Alabama and Director of the Geological Survey of Alabama and the State Oil and Gas Board. Nick, who holds BS, MS, and PhD degrees, has been with the Survey for forty years and has served in his present capacity for twenty-two. He has wide-ranging experience in the geology of Alabama and the southeast region, with particular interest in the Mesozoic and Cenozoic strata of the Eastern Gulf Coastal Plain. Nick is a past-president of AGI, as well as the Association of American State Geologists, and is currently serving as President of the Groundwater Protection Council. He recently completed almost twenty years of service to the North American Commission on Stratigraphic Nomenclature. He is a member of three AGI Member Societies.

Jonathan D. Arthur
Jonathan D. Arthur

Jonathan D. Arthur, P.G., is the Executive Director of the American Geosciences Institute. From 2009 through June 2021, Dr. Arthur served as Director of the Florida Geological Survey and State Geologist. His research in aquifer vulnerability and metals mobilization during artificial recharge has informed environmental management and policy, and he holds a keen interest in geoscience policy, public engagement, and application of geosciences to address sustainability challenges. Dr. Arthur is a Fellow of the Geological Society of America, and recipient of national awards for public and distinguished service. He has given congressional testimonies, numerous invited presentations, keynotes, and international workshops, and has served in several leadership roles in the geoscience community. Jon served on National Academies Water Science and Technology Board, committees related to aquifer system dynamics and habitat conservation, and as liaison to the U.S. National Committee for Geological Sciences. He earned his Ph.D. in geology from Florida State University.
