Nominations for Positions on the AGI Board of Directors

All positions on the AGI Board of Directors are elected by the Member Society Council from nominations received from the member societies and geoscientists within the community, including those who wish to self-nominate. The success of the institute and the federation is dependent on the service by the dedicated individuals who serve on the AGI Board of Directors.

AGI solicits nominations from the societies and the community annually for those roles which are up for election. The following are the 4 positions available for nomination and a description of their role.

Nominees shall not be under investigation by any court, regulatory agency, employer, or other public or private entity for professional misconduct, including formal ethics complaints that must be investigated for professional society bylaws violations, or found to have engaged in such misconduct by any entity.

Nominations Process and Requirements

An individual can be nominated, or they can nominate themselves for the open positions. If the candidate is nominated, the nominator serves as one reference and another reference is required. For those nominating themselves, two references are required. The candidate and references are asked to respond to this question:

Keeping in mind the position for which the candidate is nominated, what are the skills and experiences they bring that will make them effective in this position, especially as it relates to being on a board that spans the scope of the geosciences?

Candidates and references will have the option of being interviewed (20-minute limit) or submitting a written document (2000-word limit). If interviewed, the meeting will be recorded and the transcript provided to the Nominating Committee. Submittal of a resume or curriculum vitae is required. Candidates for president-elect should have served as president of a Member Society, and candidates for treasurer should have strong financial experience.

To submit a nomination, please email contact information for the candidate and references, and a copy of the candidate’s resume or curriculum vitae to nominations@americangeosciences.org.
