Discover the Future of Energy with Earth Science Week 2025 Webinar Series

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — Earth science students, educators, professionals, and enthusiasts worldwide are invited by the American Geosciences Institute (AGI) and Earth Science Week program partners to power up their knowledge during the “Energy Resources for Our Future” Webinar Series as part of this year’s Earth Science Week celebration, October 12-18, 2025.

Register today for webinars that will deliver fresh insights, leading-edge research, and classroom-ready resources designed to educate and inspire the next generation of energy leaders. Topics will include how to incorporate energy science into education, challenges and opportunities associated with geothermal energy, energy exploration and educational applications, and geologic mapping and modeling.

Webinar schedule:

  • “Spreading Energy Awareness with NEED - Strategies and Examples for Incorporating Energy Content into Your Classroom from Some Energy Education Experts,” Monday, October 13. Learn about educational resources on energy from the National Energy Education Development (NEED) Project, including how to get students to take action in their own communities. Speakers: Emily Hawbaker, Curriculum Director of the NEED Project; Robert Griegoliet, NEED Advisor, Student Engagement and Educational Technology, Physics & Special Education Teacher, Technology Coach; Tyler Cvitkovic, NEED Kentucky State Program Coordinator; Nina Corley, NEED Teacher Advisory Board Member & Facilitator, High School Educator.

  • “Geothermal: The Energy Resource of Our Past, Present & Future,” Tuesday, October 14. Specialists from Geothermal Rising share insights on the historical and cultural applications, present-day misconceptions and challenges, as well as the technological innovations and exciting career paths driving the future of geothermal energy. Speakers: Vanessa Robertson, Director of Policy and Education; Amarise Khan, Earth Energy Fellow; Jessica Eagle-Bluestone, Tribal Community Engagement Manager; Anine Pedersen, Director of Science and External Affairs; Amelia Letvin, State and Rural Community Engagement Manager.

  • “Shaping the Future of Energy Exploration with Geoscience and Innovation,” Wednesday, October 15. Hear about exploration for a range of energy resources, from offshore hydrocarbon deposits to helium reserves and more. The final segment covers a new activity that can be used to introduce K-12 students to a variety of energy resources. Speakers: Paul Mann, Professor of Geology, Tectonics, Petroleum Geology, University of Houston; Ashley Douds, Research Geologist at the Indiana Geological and Water Survey, Indiana University and past-President of Energy Minerals Division AAPG; Steven Tedesco, President, Running Foxes Energy, Inc.; Lindsay Mossa, Education Specialist, AGI.

  • “Geologic Mapping and Modeling,” Thursday, October 16. Explore the techniques and benefits of geologic mapping and modeling. The development of the new Cooperative National Geologic Map will be featured, along with segments on 3D geologic models and a related educational activity.
