New Earth Science Educators: 2025 Academy Now Accepting Applications
ALEXANDRIA, Va. — As Earth science becomes increasingly vital in classrooms and beyond, the American Geosciences Institute (AGI), in collaboration with ExxonMobil, is excited to announce that applications are now open for the 2025 Geoscience and STEM Teaching and Learning Academy (TLA). This hands-on, interactive professional development program is designed specifically to support K-8 educators who are new to teaching Earth science.
This immersive academy will be held in Alexandria, Virginia, featuring two specialized sessions to meet the unique needs of educators at different grade levels:
- K-4 educators: July 13-16, 2025.
- 5-8 educators: July 16-19, 2025.
Along with the face-to-face academy, participants will take part in webinars throughout the next academic year to support them, build their professional networks, and enhance the impact of the experience.
“This academy will build on AGI’s long-standing expertise and extensive resources in geoscience education,” said Dr. Ed Robeck, AGI’s Director of Education and Outreach. “It’s crafted to empower educators who are new to Earth science teaching, helping them gain confidence, build community, and inspire the next generation of geoscientists.”
Financial support for participants is provided, including reimbursement for travel expenses up to $200 and complimentary room and board during the academy.
Applications are now open, with a review process starting June 1 and continuing until the academy is filled. Educators interested in applying or seeking more information can visit the website for the Teaching and Learning Academy (TLA). Educators with questions are encouraged to contact the TLA team at [tla@americangeosciences.org[(tla@americangeosciences.org)].
This initiative reflects AGI’s deep commitment to supporting the geoscience education community, particularly those early in their teaching careers. Please share this opportunity with your educational network to help ensure that it reaches those who can benefit the most.
