NEEF Becomes Official Sponsor of 'No Child Left Inside' Day During Earth Science Week 2025

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The National Environmental Education Foundation (NEEF) has been named the official sponsor of “No Child Left Inside” (NCLI) Day, beginning with Earth Science Week 2025 (October 12-18). This partnership highlights NEEF’s commitment to connecting youth with the outdoors and promoting hands-on learning.

The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) held the first NCLI Day in partnership with the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in 2008 during Earth Science Week, an annual celebration of the geosciences organized by AGI since 1998. NCLI Day remains one of Earth Science Week’s Focus Days and is celebrated annually on the Tuesday of Earth Science Week, though it can be recognized at any time of the year to encourage young people to explore environmental and earth science firsthand.

NEEF’s sponsorship will amplify the impact of NCLI Day, providing resources, outreach, and programming that encourage students to explore science concepts as they connect with the natural world. The sponsorship aligns with NEEF’s broader mission of advancing environmental literacy and fostering the next generation of environmentally informed citizens.

“No Child Left Inside Day aligns perfectly with NEEF’s Greening STEM approach, which emphasizes hands-on, place-based learning experiences that connect students with the world around them,” said Robert Sendrey, Director of K-12 Environmental Education Programs at NEEF. “We appreciate AGI for creating this tradition and are glad to work with them to give more kids meaningful science experiences outside.”

AGI and NEEF encourage educators, families, and community organizations to mark Tuesday, October 14, 2025, as NCLI Day, and to create engaging outdoor experiences that bring environmental and earth science education to life. Resources for participation and activities can be found on NEEF’s new NCLI Day webpage.

Earth Science Week 2025, celebrating the theme of “Energy Resources for Our Future,” emphasizes the critical role earth science plays in understanding, managing, and sustainably using Earth’s energy resources. NCLI Day provides a complementary opportunity for students to experience earth science in action outdoors, deepening their awareness of Earth systems and human interactions with them.
