Bradley D. Cramer Named AGI President Elect
October 6, 2026
University of Iowa geoscientist Brad Cramer, Ph.D., has been named President-Elect of the American Geosciences Institute (AGI) Board of Directors for 2026–27.
Connecting research and scientific leadership
Dr. Cramer is a professor of stratigraphy and geochemistry in the School of Earth, Environment, and Sustainability at the University of Iowa. His research draws on geochemistry, biostratigraphy, geochronology, and related approaches to try to understand the major biogeochemical events in Earth history.
Dr. Cramer builds connections across the geoscience community, exemplified by his extensive experience in scientific leadership and service. Not only does he currently chair the U.S. National Committee for the International Union on Geological Sciences, but he also serves as a member on the National Academies’ Board on Earth Science and Resources, and he founded and is the chair of the International Subcommission on Timescale Calibration. Previously, he served in additional leadership and advisory roles with the International Geoscience Programme (IGCP), the International Commission on Stratigraphy, and the Society for Sedimentary Geology (SEPM). His history of collaboration across specialties, generations, and borders closely aligns with AGI’s role as a federation of geoscience societies.
Supporting the future of the geoscience enterprise
As President Elect, Dr. Cramer will help support collaboration across the geoscience community and advance AGI’s work to strengthen the profession and communicate the value of geoscience to society.
Joining the 2026–27 Board
Cramer is one of three new members of AGI’s Board of Directors. Stella Kafka will serve as Board Liaison, and Abby Seadler Wulf will join the Board as Member-at-Large. Doug Bartlett will take office as AGI President. New and outgoing Board members will be recognized at the Friends of AGI Reception on October 11, during GSA Connects 2026.
