AGI Earth Day Webinar Explores Solar Energy and the Minerals That Make It Possible

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The American Geosciences Institute (AGI) invites students, educators, geoscience professionals, and others to take part in its Earth Day Webinar, “Solar Energy and the Minerals Behind It,” during the premiere on YouTube Live at 1 p.m. ET, Monday, April 22, 2026. A recording of the webinar will be available on AGI’s YouTube channel for later viewing.

Kicking off this year’s Earth Science Week celebration, the AGI Earth Day Webinar explores the 2026 Earth Day theme, “Our Power, Our Planet,” and complements the 2025 Earth Science Week theme, “Energy Resources for Our Future.” Aimed at the general public and the education community, this webinar connects scientific expertise with accessible learning to inspire the next generation of energy innovators and informed citizens.

Presentations will span climate education’s role in the energy transition, current and emerging solar technologies, and the critical minerals and mining workforce that make solar energy possible. Speakers will be:

  • Diana Gragg, Managing Director, Explore Energy, Precourt Institute for Energy, Stanford University
  • Ella Nielsen, Programs Director at American Solar Energy Society
  • Thomas Lograsso, Director of the Critical Materials Innovation Hub, Ames National Laboratory
  • Sarah Hayes, Research Chemist, U.S. Geological Survey Geology, Energy & Minerals (GEM) Science Center
  • Celeste Stroup, Manager of Education and Workforce Development, Critical Materials Innovation Hub, Colorado School of Mines
  • Ed Robeck, Director of Education and Outreach, American Geosciences Institute

During the premiere, presenters will be available online to engage with the audience, answer questions, and participate in discussions in the chat.
