AGI Organizing Meeting the Global Innovation Challenge Briefing

Alexandria, VA — The American Geological Institute (AGI) Government Affairs and Workforce Programs have organized a briefing for The Commission on Professionals in Science and Technology (CPST) on Capitol Hill. The topic of discussion is Meeting the Global Innovation Challenge, which will take place on Thursday, November 5, 2009 from 4-7 pm in the Rayburn Office Building, Room 2325.

Recently, the United States ranked behind Switzerland in the Global Competitive Index, which was developed for the World Economic Forum. The U.S., once the world leader in innovation, is falling behind in the production of scientists and engineers and is not recruiting enough top talent, especially women and members of underrepresented minority groups. Learn how the U.S. can meet many of the challenges it faces in returning to worldwide frontrunner in production of innovative scientists.

CPST will release its newest report, STEM in the States at the briefing. Panel Discussions will be lead by moderator, Dr. Daryl Chubin of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Panelists include Albert Jaramillo of Pfizer, Eileen Lewis of the National Science Foundation, Michael Loudin from ExxonMobil, and Sarah Rajala, Past President of the America Society for Engineering Education.

A reception will follow the briefing.
