Earth Science Week 2023 Contests Eye Innovation in Geoscience

Alexandria, Va. — It’s time to get creative! For Earth Science Week (October 8-14, 2023), the American Geosciences Institute (AGI) is sponsoring four contests focusing on the theme of this year’s celebration, “Geoscience Innovating for Earth and People.”

The 2023 competitions will feature video, photography, visual arts, and essay contests:

  • Teams and individuals of any age around the world are invited to submit brief videos that tell viewers about “Geoscientists Innovate.”
  • The photo contest, also open to all ages, asks participants to show “Innovation Right Here” in their communities.
  • Open to students in grades K-5, the visual arts contest encourages children to depict “Earth Science Innovations.”
  • Finally, students in grades 6-9 are eligible to enter the essay contest, “Geoscience Innovations Solving Problems.”

For all contests, entries may be submitted any time from now to the Friday of Earth Science Week, October 13, 2023. These contests allow both students and the general public to participate in the celebration, learn about Earth science, and compete for prizes. The first-place prize for each contest is $300 and an AGI publication.

Learn more about these contests, including how to enter, visit Earth Science Week Contests online.
