Joint Earth Day Statement from AGI and Partners

To highlight the vital role that geoscience knowledge plays in fostering action toward sustainability, the American Geosciences Institute (AGI) joins the American Geophysical Union and 14 global partners in issuing a joint Earth Day statement:

The global geoscience community celebrates Earth Day by encouraging informed, practical action. As people around the globe seek to understand societal challenges, Earth, space and planetary scientists provide information and stimulate innovation that can contribute to meaningful solutions. Geoscience expertise contributes to infrastructure and energy systems improvement, efficient resource use at all scales, and other applications that foster sustainable development. Geoscientists contribute to ever-evolving scientific knowledge and techniques that can lead to robust environmental, economic, and social action. In this way, geoscientists are collaborating for a better, more equitable future.

To this joint statement, AGI adds:

The American Geosciences Institute supports Earth Day as an important opportunity to raise geoscience awareness, which is also supported through Earth Science Week (October 8-14, 2023) and its theme of “Geoscience Innovating for Earth and People.”
